The exhibition project Middle Gate II – The Story of Dymphna is a collaboration between M HKA (Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp) and the cultural centre de Werft in Geel. Middle Gate II is the follow up to the exhibition Middle Gate, curated by Jan Hoet in Geel in 2013. The exhibition concept is closely tied to the legend of the holy Dymphna, saint of the possessed, the mentally ill and patroness against epilepsy and insanity. The legend of Dymphna shares a strong connection to the identity of Geel, "the charitable city".

Guillotine, 1987
Installation , 300 x 250 x 60 cm
wood, metal, rope

On the occasion of 'Memories of Montevideo - The Antwerp Avant-Garde Scene in the Early '80s', my 1987 Guillotine was revived after a 20-year solstice in our basement. Due to the low ceiling in the museum it is shown horizontal, just like Luc Deleu's 'Scale and Perspective' horizontal building crane in Montevideo in 1981.

I met my Guillotine sculpture
In our basement last week
She seemed so glad to see me
She just smiled
And we thought about some old times
And we drew ourselves some blood
Still sharp after all these years
Still sharp after all these years

I'm not the kind of person
Who tends to socialize
I seem to lean on
Old traditional ways
And I ain't no fool for love songs
That whisper in your ears
Still sharp after all these years
Still sharp after all these years

Six in the morning
Wringed out
Jading
Longing my life away
I'll never worry
Why should I?
It's all gonna fade

Now I stand by the window
And I watch the cars
There will be some damage
One fine day
But I will not be convinced
By anyone in here
Still sharp
Still sharp
Still sharp after all these years
