The exhibition project Middle Gate II – The Story of Dymphna is a collaboration between M HKA (Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp) and the cultural centre de Werft in Geel. Middle Gate II is the follow up to the exhibition Middle Gate, curated by Jan Hoet in Geel in 2013. The exhibition concept is closely tied to the legend of the holy Dymphna, saint of the possessed, the mentally ill and patroness against epilepsy and insanity. The legend of Dymphna shares a strong connection to the identity of Geel, "the charitable city".

Cahier 2. Els Dietvorst / Ralf Bas: Hoe stichtend is een gesticht? Een utopische gedachtenwisseling over het opsluiten van delinquente jongeren door Ralf Bas en Els Dietvorst., 2004
Book , 23.4 x 18 cm

English title:
The assimilating asylum.
A utopian exchange of views on the imprisonment of juvenile
delinquents by RB and ED.

The quotations are from De geboorte van een jeugddelinquent by Jenneke Christiaens (VUB Press) and from talks with educators and juveniles at De Hutten in Mol. This cahier accompanies the film 'Koningskinderen' by Els Dietvorst. Ralf Bas is Licentiate in Criminology and Master in Prison Studies, Cambridge, UK. Els Dietvorst is artist and filmmaker.

Each Firefly project is crowned by a film, in which the valuable persons, thoughts and moments it delivered, are shown. Each film has its own subject and atmosphere. This often forces us to choices in the presentation by which some aspects of the project are highlighted and others neglected. With these 'cahiers' we develop 'side' ideas that can function as an amplification or a consideration.
